"...Mrs. Annie Mcleod is in the institution [Mayfield Sanitarium, St. Louis?] and has been operated on twice. Her condition is very critical, but there is some hope for her. Mrs. Scott was looking well in spite of her anxiety and confinement and we sincerely trust this devoted mother may receive her reward in a daughter fully restored to health and strength."

"Mrs. Annie McLeod died in the Mayfield Sanitarium in St. Louis on Sunday and her remains reached Palmyra Monday evening. The funeral occurred at Bethel church Tuesday morning and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Stone, the Pastor. The large concourse in attendance attested the esteem in which she was held while living and the sympathy felt for her bereaved husband and friends not that she is gone. Her death is a peculiarly sad one and the HERALD can only join with other friends in words of condolence for the living.
"Annie Scott McLeod was born Nov. 7, 1869; united with the church under Bro. Berry in August, 1885, and was baptized by Bro. Dingle; she died April 11th, 1807." -- Quincy [?] Herald
Resolutions of Respect [Undated clipping sent by JET]
"Whereas, In the wise dispensation of providence the death angel has again entered the fold of the W.M.S. of Bethel Baptist church and removed from among us one of our beloved members, Sister Annie McLeod, who departed this life April 11, 1897, therefore be it
"RESOLVED, That in the death of our dear sister this society has lost one of its must useful members, one who was always self-sacrificing in the interest of the cause of the Master. Our loss seems most irreparable, but we bow in humble submission to the divine will of the Master. We know full well that our loss is her eternal gain.
"RESOLVED, That the society has lost an earnest worker. Let us try to emulate her gentle disposition and Christian character.
"RESOLVED, That we extend to the bereaved husband and relations our heart-felt sympathy in this their sad hour of affliction and commend them to Him who is able to bind up the broken heart.

"How true to us are the words, 'We know not the day or the hour when the Son of Man cometh.'
"When we part with our friends we know not when or where we may meet again.
"Another loved one has passed from us but she has only gone to the bright beyond. Mrs. Annie Scott McLeod was born Nov. 7, 1869, and died April 11, 1897. At an early age she united with the Bethel Baptist church of which she was, until the day of her death, a consistent member.
"March 28, 1894, she was married to Hugh McLeod. Although their union was torn asunder so soon by the grim monster, death, it was a most pleasant one. To Annie he was most tender and true. Her every wish was granted if it were in his power. Keep a bright hope dear husband, you will meet her soon where friends part no more. To her husband she was a most loving companion. For anyone to know her was to love her.
"She has passed away from earth and has joined the host on high where Christ called her to dwell in mansions prepared for her and all who love him.
Daisy L. Scott"
A Sad Death -- Obit. probably from the Palmyra Spectator
"Mrs Annie McLeod, wife of Hugh McLeod of the Bethel neighborhood, died in St. Louis Sunday, where she went about a month ago, for treatment in a sanitarium. The remains were brought to this city Monday and taken to Bethel where the funeral occurred Tuesday. The sermon was preached by Rev. Stone of LaGrange, and the church was crowded with friends and neighbors of the deceased. Mrs. McLeod was a most estimable young woman and her death is peculiarly sad. She had been a wife only a short time and the bereaved husband has the deep sympathy of the community.
In memoriam. -- probably from the Palmyra Spectator.
"With hearts full of sadness and sympathy the Bethel Baptist Sunday School wish to offer a little tribute of love to the memory of their co-worker, Mrs. Hugh McLeod.
"And that in the death of our sister, the Sunday School has lost an efficient teacher and one of the most active and faithful workers, and in her death each member feels a personal loss, and while we deeply deplore the loss of our sister we bow with humble submission to the decree of an allwise providence, realizing that God maketh no mistakes and that he doeth all things well, and that all things work together for good to those that love and serve Him.
"And we join with her family and relatives in mourning for a true and good woman.
"We ask that these resolutions be printed in our county papers.
"Done by order of the Sunday School Feb. 17th, 1908.
Mrs. Lucy Morre, Ella M. White, Committee
[This resolution was in the Taylor notebook with the obituary for Annie McLeod; however, I suspect that it may pertain to another of Uncle Hugh's wives since it is dated 14 years after the death of Annie!--LKL]
