As previously speculated, the Robert Taylor “of White Oak” may have been the eldest son of Caleb Taylor and born by 1762 and named for his posited paternal grandfather.
Other possible daughters of Caleb Taylor were the Mildred Tailor (sic) whom John Foster posted bond to marry in Rutherford County on 9 June 1789, with John Foster Senr as surety, and the Cybil Taylor who married Robert Lankford about 1788 and lived in that part of Rutherford County that is now Polk County. The fact that these two Taylor females married men from that part of then Rutherford County that is now Polk County suggest that they might have been full sisters to the Robert Taylor “of White Oak” and may have gone to live with him after their father’s death. These latter two were clearly born by or before 1770 and, along with the Robert Taylor “of White Oak” and Rebecca (Taylor) Devenport may have been children of Caleb Taylor from a first marriage, while John Taylor, Jeremiah Taylor, Martha (Taylor) Hunnicutt, and Sarah (Taylor) King appear to have been children of Caleb’s marriage to Sarah.
